Choose Your Fish!
Note: Before you choose make your fish follow the steps on Getting Started and make sure you've completed the Checklist.
The most exciting part of getting started with a tropical aquarium is choosing your fish. However, it is not a simple as it seems. Some fish have different needs to others for example pH, hardness and temperature. Furthermore, if you mix smaller fish with larger fish then the smaller fish may get "picked on" or even eaten. This is why is it important to research the basic needs and information of the fish that you are interested in keeping.
The general rule when having a community tank is to try and keep fish that are from the same scientific family. For example, only keep Tetras. Don't try to mix Tetras with Cichlids or Goldfish.
